Easter Weekend: Hobbies

What else do you title a post about how you picked up three freaking hobbies in one week?! I feel like superwoman. I mean…the perfectly average, bloated version, but still.man.

Roger and I had one of the craziest weeks, fo sho. It was one event after the other for work, and come the weekend, we played hard, cuz: work hard, play hard, am I right?! To reward ourselves after such a long week, we had a date night at the movies and picked up 3 perfect springtime hobbies: bicycling, photography, and gardening. Let’s just say it was an expensive week.

Here’s a few Easter Weekend snapshots:

The Weekend Report {Happy Easter! And Beltline Adventures}

I’ve had a good/productive weekend, with a day off Friday, and technically a day off today.  I’m finding as a grown up, days off don’t necessarily translate into sleeping in, but hey, being productive makes me happy, so it’s all good!

Friday started with going into work with my hubby, who did NOT have the day off.  Then to McD’s to get some breakfast for us.  I had an egg white delight because I’m counting calories once again, and actually, I’m not hating life. So there’s that.

Then to Ross to find a dress for the Texas wedding reception this Thursday.  Pics on that next week for sure!

THEN…a mani/pedi so that I can be vacation ready! I went with the neutral gray.  I don’t know if I love it, but I certainly don’t hate it!

IMG_8900After my mani/pedi, I headed back to Roger’s work with Chick Fila in hand, and stayed there as we participated in our Church’s Good Friday Service.  I had to wear real shoes for that, instead of flip flops, and messed up my toenail with it’s fresh coat of paint #shouldhaveknownbetter. But it’s all good, because somehow I have the best husband in the world, and he fixed if for me! Haha

IMG_8935

After the church service, Roger and I had an appointment with H&R block to finish up our taxes before the April 15th deadline.  Then to Walgreen’s to have our passport photos made, THEN UPS to have our passport applications mailed off.  We are GOING to Greece, y’all!!!

THEN….as if all of that wasn’t productive enough, and perhaps because it was TOO productive, Roger and I went to Historic Fourth Ward Park for a walk on the Beltline, stoping at a restaurant in Krogg’s Street market that I just HAD to introduce Roger to: Fred’s Meat & Bread.

Views from our walk to dinner:

Saturday was a good day…much more laid back, with chores sprinkled in here and there. I finished up some designs so that I don’t have to take my computer with me on vacation #fullypresent.  And I did laundry and cleaned the house–with Roger’s helps, of course.

Saturday evening, I went to a local park to have professional portraits taken.  No particular reason. Just wanted some nice photos that didn’t revolve around my engagement photos or wedding photos.  The same girl who did our engagement and wedding photos took my portraits…FOR FREE! So that was a blessing!

Here’s an after pic of me:

IMG_0313

After pics, Roger and I headed to a new restaurant to try to explore our city a little more.  Something I always try to do more of, but was super encouraged after reading my friend Sarah’s posts on how she is exploring her own city!

Roger and I hit up a pizza parlor near our home, and had the BEST PIZZA EVER!!! Well, it was definitely up there! Oz Pizza…they make good stuff, yo!

Processed with VSCOcam with f2 preset

Then of course, it was EASTER!!!!! YAY! Christ is Risen!

I headed to church with Roger when he went at 7:30 in the am.  And ya know, waking up at 6am didn’t kill me…maybe I should do it more often…use that time to workout…who knows?!

Roger did an amazing job leading worship!

After church we headed to a restaurant for Sunday lunch because homegirl was not cooking lunch to have leftovers when she’ll be out of town for the 7 days following! lol. Then home to rest, finish up some housework, and host some folks for a game night.

This morning?! Headed to the airport for vacay! Can’t wait!  A post to follow next Monday with that update!

Happy Easter y’all!!!!

The Weekend Report {first married valentine’s}

Loads to cover, so I’ll get straight to it:

This weekend Roger and I celebrated our first married Valentine’s Day and 5 months of marriage.  Time is really flying.  March will be 6 months, and a year since we were engaged.  CRAZY!

Processed with VSCOcam with hb2 preset

We decided this year that we wouldn’t go crazy on each other.  We want to go to Greece and pay off debt, and we didn’t feel Valentine’s Day had to be out of control.  So I got Roger this gift that I just knew he’d love (and he did), and spent Friday the 13th making memories with him.  We got Little Caesar’s on the way home from work for dinner ( my fav) and relaxed at home for a bit and exchanged gifts.

(Roger’s gift)

THEN it was time to change for the date I had planned.  I drove us south of the city for Laser tag and arcade games.  I’ve never just gone without a group of people to an arcade, and it was actually a lot of fun.  I felt like a nerd, but I didn’t care too much.

Saturday we spent some lazy time in bed (the best) and then Roger got up to start making brunch for us.  Chocolate chip pancakes, a bowl made of bacon, scrambled eggs and fresh fruit.  Divine.

Processed with VSCOcam with f2 preset Processed with VSCOcam with c1 preset

While he was making breakfast, I sneakily made this (reasons why I love Roger) in the guest bedroom where he keeps all his clothes (the closet struggle). He didn’t find it for a couple of hours but that’s ok! I love pajama days anyway!

Processed with VSCOcam with c1 preset

I decided to tackle an art project with my day on Saturday while Roger practiced worship songs for Sunday.  I created chalkboards within the panes of an old window.  Here is the picture of the window painted and taped up.  I have been too lazy to take a pic of the finished product…oops.  Roger was able to hang it for me Monday night and it looks awesome in the office.

Processed with VSCOcam with c1 preset

Then for our romantical dinner, I baked a strawberry cake with homemade strawberry cream cheese icing completely from scratch (no box mix folks).  It took forever, but it was worth it.  Roger loves strawberry! While I was prepping the cake, Roger prepared us a steak candlelight dinner.  It was magical! Then we danced in the dining room to his background jazz music! lol.

Processed with VSCOcam with c1 preset Processed with VSCOcam with c1 preset Processed with VSCOcam with c1 preset

Sunday was church and a friend’s birthday party, and Monday was lunch with friends that turned into dinner.  We left for their house at 1pm and didn’t get home till after 10pm.  But it was a good time all the same.

Hope you all had a great, long/love weekend!

The Weekend Report {Parent’s Visit}

So my parents came to visit Roger and I for the first time since we were married.  It’s really kind of awesome…it’s a weird role reversal where I provide the towels and get to sleep in the master bedroom.  SWEET!

Processed with VSCOcam with a5 preset(the ‘rents accomodations)

But seriously, we had an awesome time, starting with a surprise birthday party for my momma! My aunt and uncle (my mom’s bro and sis-in-law) and my sis live down the street, so they came over and surprised my mom for a neat little birthday dinner.

Processed with VSCOcam with hb1 preset
Processed with VSCOcam with hb1 preset(my dad giving the peace sign…hahahaha)

On the menu: Tacos! This is one of my favorite meals that Roger makes…mostly because he makes the BEST shells! He fries them up himself in some oil, and they are the best things ever.  Then we did fresh salsa (yes…I made salsa!) and guacamole with some awesome sweet potato/corn tortilla chips we have come to love–organic and no GMO’s!

And for dessert? Red velvet cupcakes with homemade buttercream icing (basically tons of butter and powdered sugar…and a little vanilla extract!).

Processed with VSCOcam with hb1 preset Processed with VSCOcam with hb1 preset

I had a great time pretending I was an only child on special lunch dates with them.  And even though Roger had to work most of the week, we got some good quality time all together.

It was a lazy week y’all! The kind not conducive to blogging….woops! I mostly spent it in my pj’s and never showered, but it’s all good….right?!

Saturday night of their visit, we went out to support Roger in his band. They did an amazing job! It was a cool event to attend as a family!

Image-1(I was sad Roger would be away most of the weekend, so he came up with the idea to send each other silly pics throughout the day.  Here’s one of the photos I sent Roger during our silly face war)

Well, even though this post is coming a bit late, hope you’ve enjoyed the week{end} report! lol.

Hope you all had a great week last week!

The Weekend Report {Happy New Year!}

I know, I know!

I’m so totally and completely late.  I suck at blogging, right?!

Anyway, here is my New Year’s weekend review:

Both Roger and I’s offices were closed Thursday and Friday, with a half day on Wednesday (New Year’s Eve).  This much paid time off from work is almost unheard of, so we took advantage of it by visiting some friends in Tallahassee.

The live nearby-ish…Only a 4.5 hour drive from Atlanta! Plus, last time we visited, it was only for like 23 hours, and we thought we had to do better than that!

IMG_7877_web(that one time we spent more time on the road than actually visiting with Amanda and Louie)

So off to Amanda and Louie’s house we went!

When we got there, we rested for a bit, then loaded their truck to take a short roadtrip to Dustin, Fl (hello beach!!!)…FOR CAMPING!!!! a) I have never been camping before in my life…at least not in a tent; b) I can’t say I was looking forward to it! lol.  But we had the best time!

Processed with VSCOcam with c1 preset(Amanda and I….besties since High School!)Processed with VSCOcam with c1 preset(the campsite…post breakdown)

We got there after dark, and had the help of people we were meeting up with (12 of us in all) to put our tent up.  Then we grilled some ribs, and waited to bring in the new year with some fireworks.  It was a great time, indeed!

Having attended Florida State, all my friends are huge Noles fans, and so Thursday, we found ourselves at a sports bar to watch the Rose Bowl game…where FSU had an embarrassing defeat to the Oregon Ducks.  Now.  I don’t follow sports.  At all.  Never even heard of the Ducks before. But ow, ow Mariota! Def a fan now! Sorry, FSU! (And ok, maybe I was swayed by Obama’s thoughts on what a good young man he is. YAY for the good guys of the world!)

We got to see some pretty lights after the game…to try to brighten Louie’s spirits! We had a photo shoot y’all! lol (Unfortunately those pics were taken on Louie’s phone, so I’ll post those when he sends them to me!)

Friday was a day of laziness.  Which I am ALL about! Roger made tacos for Amanda and Louie and I that night.  Best tacos he’s ever done!

Amanda and Louie are very organic, make it yourself/grow it yourself type people (like…they make their own yogurt!). More on that in later blog posts for sure! But because of this, Roger made a few modifications…like using brown rice in his Mexican rice instead of white rice.  I gotta tell you folks, just as delicious! It’s all about making those smart replacements!

Saturday we went shooting in this secluded gun range out in the country.  I probably shot 10 different guns (8 of which were Louie’s!), and we had a great time out there.  I even hit the targets, folks! #sniperstatus!

IMG_5605(the revolver…I was really excited to shoot this, though my face may not show it! lol.  Look at dat stance!)

For those of you who don’t know me, please know I am not a girl who grew up around guns.  The things honestly scare me! But it was so fun to shoot and aim, and feel like a secret agent! lol. We used the utmost gun safety with everything, and Louie helped train me on how to handle the gun so that I protected myself and others.  We didn’t just show up and act like hooligans! Great experience for sure!

Hope you guys had an amazing New Year’s! Heeeeeellllllooooo 2015!

The Weekend Report {Christmas is upon us}

It’s clearly Christmas! I know this because I went to 4 Christmas parties last week: one on Wednesday (church kids’ party–cuz I help teach), one on Thursday (department party), and TWO on Friday (one for my whole work building, and one for the young adults at church). Plus, I’m going to one tonight, so…clearly….Christmas.

I had another busy weekend.  But let’s recap:

{Secret Santa}

Turns out my boss had me for our work Secret Santa! We finished our week of giving small gifts with a bang at a department Christmas Party my bosses hosted at their house (I work for a couple).  My boss got me a lovely scarf and some earrings (#blogfail: no pics). Their home was beautifully decorated for the occasion!

I had a fellow coworker, and this is how I wrapped some of his gifts! (I’m telling ya’! Kraft paper for the win!)

{SoMe Secret Santa}

Learned a new phrase: SoMe: Social media.  Lol.  I signed up for a really neat Christmas exchange online and received some cool gifts.  I’m writing a post all about it on the 19th, so stay tuned! Until then, I’ll show you the awesome card my Secret Santa sent with her lovely gifts: #adrobs

{A Sick Husband}

Pretty sure this is the worst time of the year to get sick, and of course my husband comes down hard with an upper respiratory virus.  Greeeeeaaaat! It had him knocked out this weekend.  Which was unfortunately a busy weekend.  I’m proud to say he did not wimp out, and we were able to fulfill all of our duties.

{TV Binging}

In between working on freelance projects at home, blogging, laundry, taking care of Roger, and prepping for all of these parties, we somehow managed to watch an entire season of American Horror Story this weekend.  Craziness! I think we started on Thursday night, but at any rate, we watched the latest season on Netflix, which is the Coven season.  OH MY GOSH!!!!! It’s soooooo good! I stayed away from the series because it sounded so scary (I mean, look at the promos!), but Roger and I endured season one and two pretty well (which are scary), so when I heard Season 3 had been added to Netflix, I got really excited!

Season 3 can be scary at times, but mostly it just has really great character development and story line.  It’s well written and keeps you on the edge! Hence how we finished the whole season! lol.

{Furniture Painting}

My good friend over at helloprenurse is moving and she enlisted me to help decorate.  It’s been cool developing some ideas with her, and putting together pieces for the overall decor.  Can’t wait to see how it all comes out!

This weekend, I helped her paint some things for the house.  Now.  I’ve been itching to paint furniture forever.  It’s all so romantic: You buy furniture off Craig’s list or from the thrift store, and you fix it up exactly how you want it!  That’s what I thought, anyway, until I started painting the furniture for myself.  #theworst.  Let’s just say, in the future, I will be buying furniture the color I need it in! Haha.

Well that’s the extended weekend report! Hope you all had a good weekend!

The Weekend Report {BUSY-NESS}

This was a crazy-long, intense weekend.  Which may or may not have led to me oversleeping for work today.  Whoops.  ANYWAY, it’s been a while since I posted and I wanted to give you guys a bit of a recap of what’s happened since then.

{one}

Friday was full of performances at work.  I don’t know about where you work, but sometimes I get asked to act in dramas, or even to dance.  And on Friday, my bosses were in charge of the entertainment for a Christmas Party.  Roger also got roped in because he’s so stinking talented, and this is how we may have been dressed for much of the Christmas Party! lol

Image-1(Just call us Santa’s little helpers!)

{two}

Friday evening was a small group going-away party for a dear friend who decided to follow her dreams and go back to school to become a librarian, which is appropriate now that TNT apparently has a show called “The Librarians.” She’s originally from Canada, and so she will be headed back there for school.

It’s so exciting when you see people following their dreams and passions and making things happen! I’m so proud of her and happy for her, but I will definitely miss her!

Here’s just a few pics from the farewell shindig.

Processed with VSCOcam with f2 preset Processed with VSCOcam with m5 preset(we decorated cupcakes! The first was decorated by the guest of honor, the second by me)

{three}

Roger is a youth pastor (may have mentioned that before, but for more, check out the “Who I’m Is” page! lol).  Saturday was a special day of service/outreach for his teens.  We partnered with another youth group and went to a local mall and offered to throw people’s trash away for them when they were done eating, and also handed out some brownies for those that wanted them.  We also took some time to sanitize our entire church.  With flu season upon us, we don’t need people getting sick, so we cleaned from top to bottom.

Processed with VSCOcam with g3 preset Processed with VSCOcam with c1 preset

{four}

I spent some time this weekend wrapping gifts for my social media secret santa, as well as my sister-in-law and her family! Kraft paper and washi tape are my new obsessions, and from now on, everyone I know is getting their gifts wrapped in kraft paper. It’s appropriate for ALL seasons, folks! Plus, as Maria sings in The Sound of Music: “Brown paper packages, tied up with string, these are a few of my favorite things!” So you see, I’m making that a thing again!

Processed with VSCOcam with c1 preset Processed with VSCOcam with f2 preset Processed with VSCOcam with f2 preset Processed with VSCOcam with f2 preset Processed with VSCOcam with f2 preset(this last one obvs isn’t wrapped, but I wanted you to see how cute it is! For my godson/nephew!)

{five}

This weekend also boasted some visits to a nursing home where Roger and I played Christmas carols in an ensemble, while others in our group passed out gifts.  No pictures from this, sadly.

{six}

This week has been a work secret santa week for my job.  So fun to get gifts for people and to see what others get you.  Here’s a few of the gifts I’ve gotten thus far!

{seven}

Last, but not least, there was an estate sale across the street this weekend.  We came in during the last 30 minutes of the last day and bought a beautiful dresser for our guest room (aka, Roger’s new dressing room, because our closest is too small for his things!), and a couple of kitchen utensils (like spoons, because what the heck…those keep disappearing), and a filing cabinet! It was a successful run!

Processed with VSCOcam with a5 preset

And that’s the weekend update.  Hope you all had good weekends.  And if your weekends were restful, let me know! I want to live vicariously through you! lol

First and foremost, HAPPY THANKSGIVING! The loooong weekend (I got off work at noon on Wednesday) wasn’t conducive to blogging, unfortunately.  Lots of rest, though!

{one}

Roger and I roasted our very first Turkey (see here for how we did it)! And it was a delicious culinary adventure!

{two}

I prepped some desserts for Thanksgiving, including an apple bread (from a kid’s school fundraiser that I baked), and some made-from-scratch cookies that were good, but ended up more like chocolate chip bread! Any tips on future batches would be great!

I also brought some decorations for the Thanksgiving shindig.  Who doesn’t love fresh flowers?

FlowerArrangementAlso, I may have made 20 pounds of mashed potatoes for only 8 total dinner guests.  Whoops! I’ll let you imagine this since I seemed to have forgotten to snap a photo!

I designed my own Christmas cards and they came in Tuesday, so I spent some time on Black Friday addressing them! Can’t wait to get them out!

I got the opportunity to take some family portraits for a GORGEOUS family this weekend! I’m still new at photography.  Took a class in college, but got more into the developing aspect from film to print than I did in the artistic nature of photography.  But it has been cool in recent weeks to get back into it.  I don’t really want to do it professionally by any means, but it has been a fun outlet! And I loooove editing the pics.  Is that weird?

The weekend report {Babies & Besties}

{Scroll to the bottom for a FREE nursery printable!}

Welcome to this edition of The Weekend Report.

I’m your host Lindsey Galabeas.

Wow.  still weird that I have a new last name…is it bad that sometimes I forget and say my old last name on accident? Whoops!

So, this weekend was amazing.  Rogerio (what my dad calls him) and I drove 10 hours (total–roundtrip) to Tallahassee this weekend for an amazing 24 hours with my best friend from high school.

IMG_7877_web

(What roadtrip is complete without a selflie or two?)

SHE IS HAVING A BABY!!!! And it’s all so exciting! Can’t wait to meet little Sofia Katherine! So.  Anyway, we drove down from Atlanta after work to spend some time with my bestie and her hubby and to attend a baby shower for Amanda.  It was a lovely affair with cute decorations, and some amazing gifts for my lovely friend and her soon-to-be.

(Happy to find this bag from Homegoods…I wanted something Amanda could reuse!)

Roger and I LOVE hanging out with Amanda and her husband, Louie.  They are some of the most genuine (almost typed genuinest…haha) people you will ever meet.  They are so warm, loving, and hospitable, and I always eat well when I go to visit (not that that’s important or anything…#fatkid)!

Roger had some bro time which I didn’t realize that he desperately misses here in Atlanta.  So it was cool that he got to hang out with the guys (aka Amanda’s husband and his best friend).  And also we may or may not have added an xbox one to the holiday list.  I am a little weary of this as I fear how it might affect our time together, but I think it could be a good thing.  I can blog while he plays, and you better believe I will want to play some games with him! (Not a gamer at all, but it seems like fun…I’d give it a go!)

Loved our short but so sweet time in Tally, and can’t wait to visit again!

And a little gifty for you all…I designed a little nursery print for Sofia’s new room.  Just a little something that goes with the theme of their nursery.  Here it is:
